Dr Satchidananda Panda

About Dr Satchidananda Panda

Dr Satchidananda (Satchin) Panda is a professor and circadian biology researcher at the Salk Institute, where he studies how the body’s circadian clocks influence health and metabolism. His research explores how factors including eating patterns, light exposure, sleep and physical activity interact with circadian rhythms, with particular interests in time-restricted eating and metabolic health. His work has helped advance understanding of how everyday behaviours and environmental cues can influence the body’s biological rhythms.

Qualifications & Experience

  • PhD, Scripps Research Institute, 2001
  • Postdoctoral research, Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation, San Diego
  • Professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies
  • Founding executive member of the Center for Circadian Biology at the University of California, San Diego
  • Pew Scholar in the Biomedical Sciences
  • Author of The Circadian Code
  • His Salk professorship and Pew Scholar award are independently supported by Salk.

Circadian rhythms and metabolic health

Dr Panda’s research investigates how circadian clocks coordinate biological processes throughout the body and how these rhythms respond to everyday behaviours and environmental cues. His work spans the relationship between circadian biology, metabolism and healthy ageing, with particular interests including:

Circadian rhythms and biological clocks
Time-restricted eating and metabolic health
Sleep and daily activity patterns
Light exposure and circadian regulation
Healthy ageing

Dr Satchidananda Panda's Role at HOOKE

As a member of HOOKE’s Scientific Advisory Board, Dr Panda advises the team on developments in circadian rhythm research, drawing on his expertise in circadian biology, metabolism and time-restricted eating. He is also available to consult directly with HOOKE members on special request.
